Hello, and welcome back to our blog here at MDPen

This is part two of our blog series about microneedling aftercare. In part one, we clarified the healing process that takes place once you’ve received microneedling treatment so that you’re more aware of how important skin care is during the process. Although it may seem like you’ll be out of work for months or won’t be able to go out and have fun, this is certainly not the case. After your treatment, you’ll be able to resume most of your normal everyday activities within a few days.

However, it’s also important that you follow the instruction of your skin care specialist in order to maximize the benefits of the procedure and keep your skin safe. Keep reading to learn more and give us a call today if you have any questions.

CLEANLINESS

Cleanliness is an absolutely essential part of aftercare when it comes to microneedling. Especially right after the treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to bacteria and dirt meaning you’ll want to avoid touching your face.

This also means avoiding exercising which could lead to sweat and dirty accumulating on the face. On the other hand, you don’t want to use cleansers that will harm your skin either. Your skin is working overtime in order to repair itself, so any powerful deep cleansers will be harmful as well.

HYDRATION

While your skin is healing, you not only need to hydrate your skin directly, but you’ll need to drink lots of water. If your skin is already dry in the first place, you’ll need to pay extra close attention to this because it will heal much faster if it’s hydrated, and you’ll likely see much better results. Hyaluronic acid is great for hydrating skin after treatment.

REGENERATE AND STIMULATE

Your skin care specialist may recommend the use of collagen-stimulating peptides. Since the main purpose of microneedling is to bring more collagen into your skin, anything you can do to help it along and stimulate healthier and stronger skin will be beneficial in the long run. Check in with your skin care specialist to see what they recommend based on your current skin condition.

HEALING

Above all, your skin needs time to heal. Antioxidant serum can help soothe your skin and reduce irritation, but above all, avoiding anything that could harm your skin, getting a good night’s sleep, and eating a healthy diet will help your skin recover faster and look better once it does. You’ll want to avoid going in the pool, staying out in the sun for extended periods of time, and touching your face without washing your hands. If you experience itchiness, do not scratch or rub your face.

Some other helpful tips include:

  • Avoid scrubbing with a brush or washcloth. Instead, use a soft towel and pat your skin to dry or apply topical medication.
  • Do not wear makeup within 24-hours of treatment.
  • Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol; drink plenty of water to help with recovery.
