MDPen VS DermaPen: Which Microneedling Device Is Right For You?

There’s no arguing the cosmetic procedure industry is growing and along with it the number of procedures available. Worldwide, this industry was valued at USD 26.3 billion in 2016 and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.9% over the forecast period according to Grand View Research. They report that North America dominated the global market in 2016 and accounted for more than 40% of the total market. This growth in popularity is due to the increased awareness about cosmetic surgeries, their growing demand, and easy availability and accessibility of these cosmetic procedures and practitioners.

A growing trend is the popularity of non-invasive aesthetic procedures. Growth in this region has outpaced growth in invasive cosmetic procedures. Grand View Research reports these procedures now hold 42% of the market share and as the population ages, the attraction of non-surgical techniques is only expected to remain high.

We all love choices. Who doesn’t love the option between a vanilla shake or a chocolate shake or a caramel latte or a hazelnut latte? However, the plethora of options has its downside: which is better?

MDPen is a huge proponent of MicroNeedling procedures. Using our MicroNeedling device, the MDPen, we believe our practitioners are the best of the best performing this procedure. The results are amazing: decreased sagging of the skin, disappearance of wrinkles and fine lines, diminishing of acne scars, and the restoration of natural color to discolored skin are just some of the many benefits of a MicroNeedling procedure.

That being said, many of our patients are confused between the Dermapen and the MDPen. Today, we’re here to set the record straight.

There are 3 core differences between MDPen and DermaPen. The differences between the two products and available services have a substantial effect on the ease-of-use, quality of operation, and longevity of the MicroNeedling device. We want to make sure that you’re able to make informed choices before you purchase your MicroNeedling choice. Let’s discuss some of the key differences between the two MicroNeedling devices.

In terms of power, MDPen is easily the winner. While the DermaPen can operate between 6000 – 8000RPM, the MDPen blows the competition out of the water. MDPen boasts a robust 6500 – 17500 RPM! The unbeatable power means no skin snagging, consistent microchannel creation, and the ability to work on delicate areas of the skin at high speed without sacrificing depth precision.

Another problem associated with working on delicate areas of the skin is depth control. While DermaPen is adjustable between 0.50 – 2.5mm, the MDPen allows for a greater variety of depths. The MDPen can be adjusted between 0.10 – 3.0mm. Being able to work within a larger range will allow you to perform MicroNeedling treatments while inducing less trauma to the tissue of thinner, sensitive areas.

In addition to adjustability of depth, you have more freedom of choice in needle heads when you purchase an MDPen. DermaPen offers a single needle head that consists of 12 needles; however, MDPen offers either a 12 or 160 MicroNeedling head  You can choose between MDPen’s Refine Nano Needle for delicate areas or the Restore for all areas of the face and body.

When buying a MicroNeedling device, you never want to sacrifice on quality. Poor quality equipment can result in unfortunate matters such as injury and replacement costs. When you buy a quality MicroNeedling device, you’re investing in better performance AND peace of mind.

DermaPen is constructed with aluminum and plastic. While this may feel lighter in your hand, that’s due to the less-than-substantial materials being used. The MDPen features stronger, more durable medical-grade stainless steel. The stainless steel will last the test of time during your busiest seasons. Additionally, stainless steel is much easier to keep thoroughly cleaned since it is not as prone to scratches, dents, and other surface damage.

If you find yourself treating a larger area of skin or want to ensure that your client feels like their time is valued, you’ll want to be able to work as efficiently as possible. Unfortunately, the DermaPen recommends that you take a break at least once every 10 mins in case their device begins to overheat. This may not seem like a crucial matter until either your client becomes nervous about the sporadic pauses in treatment or your device begins to perform poorly due to overheating.

Finally, the MDPen offers a lifetime warranty as opposed to DermaPen’s 1-year warranty. MDPen’s ability and confidence to offer a lifetime warranty on MicroNeedling devices lets you feel completely reassured that the device has been developed and constructed in a manner that doesn’t cut corners to save costs. We want you to be able to work at your optimal ability without worrying that your MicroNeedling device can’t keep up.

Neither MDPen nor Dermapen forgoes their services after purchase. It is important to keep in mind the quality of those post-purchase services.

If you want to be kept in the loop on the latest trainings and information, MDPen keeps all of their materials current and works diligently to ensure everything is updated. The online training provided by DermaPen has suffered from a lack of attention and may not be as accurate or modern.

Keeping your skills sharp and moving forward is always important in business. With live trainings, MDPen offers the knowledge of medical aesthetic professionals such as doctors, nurses, and aestheticians. Most of DermaPen’s trainers are sales reps in disguise that may not hold any essential credentials.
